عطيل ما السبب في كل هذا؟ هل أصبحنا همجيين كالأتراك، فنتعامل مع بعضنا بهمجية كما يعاملوننا؟ بحق السماء توقفا عن هذا الشجار الهمجي! من منكم يستغنى عن حياته فليكن صاحب الضربة التالية وستكون نهايته على يدي أنا. أوقفوا هذا الإنذار، إنه يبث الرعب بين سكان الجزيرة. ما الذي يجرى هنا أيها النبلاء؟ إياجو، أخبرني بمن بدأ كل هذا، تكلم!
إياجو لا أعلم سيدي. لقد كنا نستمتع بوقتنا لحظات فقط، وكانت السعادة تغمر الجميع، ولكن سرعان ما تبدل الحال، يبدو أن هناك شيئاً ما جعل الرجلين يخرجان عن شعورهما فحملا السيوف في وجه بعضهما. لا أعلم ما الذي من الممكن أن يكون قد تسبب في كل هذا. إنني أفضل أن أفقد ساقي في معركة على أن أشترك في موقف كهذا.
عطيل كيف تفقد السيطرة على نفسك لهذه الدرجة يا مايكل؟
كاسيو عذراً سيدي، أنا لا أستطيع الكلام.
عطيل وأنت يا مونتانو، يفترض عنك هدوءك ورباطة جأشك.
فالجميع يعرف عنك هذا. فجميع الحكماء يحترمونك. قل لي أي شيء في الوجود قد يدفعك لتخاطر بسمعتك الطيبة ليجعلك تظهر هكذا كأنك رجل عصابات؟
OTHELLO How did this all start? Have we all become as savage as the Turks, treating each other as badly as they would have treated us? For heaven’s sake, stop this savage brawl! The next man who swings his sword must not care about his life, because the instant he strikes, he dies. Stop that alarm from ringing, it’s scaring the islanders. IAGO I don’t know. We were all having fun until just a minute ago; we were as happy as a bride and groom taking off their clothes. But then the mood suddenly changed. It was as if something had driven the men insane and made them point their swords at one another. I don’t know what could have started this. I’d rather have lost my legs in battle than be a part of this!
OTHELLO How did you manage to lose your self control like this, Michael?

OTHELLO Montano, you’re supposed to be calm and collected. You’re famous for it. Wise people respect you. What in the world made you risk your reputation like this and become a street brawler? Tell me.
