الفصل 16 إليزابيث وجين تعودان للمنزل

كان هذا في الأسبوع التالي من شهر مايو حين انطلقت جين وإليزابيث وماريا معاً من لندن إلى هامبشاير، وحين اقتربن من الفندق الصغير الذي ستلقاهم عنده عربة السيد بينيت، رأين كيتى وليديا تطلان من نافذة إحدى الحجرات بالطابق العلوي، وقد كانت الفتاتان هناك منذ أكثر من ساعة، منشغلتين في سعادة بزيارة متجر للقبعات يواجه الفندق، وإعداد وجبة لهما. 
وبعد الترحيب بأخواتهما، أشارتا في فخر إلى منضدة عليها لحم بارد، وصاحت کيتی قائلة: “أليس هذا شهياً؟ أليست مفاجأة سارة؟”. 
وأضافت ليديا قائلة: “ونرغب في أن تكن ضيوفنا عليها، ولكن لابد لكن أن تقرضانا المال؛ لأننا أنفقنا كل أموالنا في المتجر المواجه للفندق”. وبعد ذلك ، قامتا بعرض الأشياء التي قامتا بشرائها وقالت إحداهما: “انظرن، لقد اشتريت هذه القبعة، لا أعتقد أنها جميلة للغاية، ولكنني أعتقد أنني 
Chapter 16 Elizabeth and Jane Return Home
It was the second week in May when Jane, Elizabeth and Maria set out from London together for Hertfordshire, and as they came near the small hotel where Mr Bennet’s carriage would meet them, they saw both Kitty and Lydia looking out of an upstairs room. These two girls had been in the place for more than an hour, happily employed in visiting a hat shop opposite and arranging a meal. 
After welcoming their sisters, they proudly pointed to a table laid out with cold meat, crying, “Isn’t this nice? Isn’t it a pleasant surprise?” 
“And we want all of you to be our guests,” added Lydia, “but you must lend us the money, because we have just spent ours at the shop over there.” Then, showing the things that she had bought: “Look here, I have bought this hat. I don’t think that it is very pretty, but I thought I might as well buy it as not.
