Is it important to spend on New Capital Project or such closed factories,
while many factories in Egypt were forced to lay off labor, reduce
production or shut down completely leading to the layoff of thousands of
workers?
Q: In your viewpoint, what are the priorities which the Government should
determine?
A: Firstly, the unemployment crisis which requires spending on projects
creating job opportunities’; as several factories faced problems in the past
years leading to reducing labor number or complete shutdown. Would it be
better to build a new factory to start from scratch or re- operate a current
closed factory with its equipment? Many factories had to be shut down
due to their debts and inability to repay for the banks. So, would it be
better to pump EGP45 billion into a new city or grant EGP3 or 4 billion as
soft loans for the owners of such closed factories so that they can reopen
their factories and employ labor. However, I’m certainly optimistic, in
general.
