CREATIVE TEENAGE GIRL FROM EGYPT
IN the Egyptian environment, where there is an abundance of crea tivity and innovation,
Shahd Mekawy, 14, has showed her talent since she was six years old. She started with
drawing cartoon characters and attracted attention from her classmates and teachers,
who were enjoying watching what she drew. Then, she developed her talent to draw real
characters.
“I joined an academy of plastic arts to learn drawing. Afterwards, I had got the course of
“Black & White Academy”, but, at first, this instution did not accept my enrollment
because I was just 11 years old, while the minimum age was 12. However, the Academy
accepted my enrollment after reviewing a number of my paintings to approve joining
the course of decor, which includes drawing using pencils and pens and in black and
white charcoals Then I joined a course of abstract arts,” said Mekawy.
The young artist exerted efforts to develop he talent individually, so she took part in
severe competitions, including a competition organized by the Egyptian Ministry of
Education nationwide, in which Mekawy was ranked first Mekawy also competed in a
competition at the Indian Embassy in Cairo, where she was awared a prize after coming
first too.
Mekawy participated in a number of exhibi tions, including ones held at the Syndicate of
Journalists, the Pharaonic Village and Cairo Opera House. Moreover, she took part in
the exhibitions of ” Fekrah ”, “Da Vinci 1 & 2”, “Cairo in temational Fair” and Ishtar
International, among others.
Although Mekawy is a young artist, she ad mires the details and challenges with difficult
drawing, as clearly evidenced by most of her paintings, in which she wanted to focus on
showing human aspects and societal problems.
