The civilization cycles as stated by Ibn   Khaldoun of Tunisia, Toynbee the
British philosopher and Sorokin the Russian one are divided into three
phases:
The 1st phase extends the physical components to its rational limitations stage,
and then develops into a second phase balancing between rational and
emotional components. Then it develops later to a third phase of
sentimental and emotional components.
In architecture the first phase crosses the functional and structure.
Architecture moves to the humanitarian phase when balance is The third
phase is witnessing the emotional tyranny on the scene, and here the
decaying civilization is replaced by a new one.
In architecture these cycles move in Classic cycle from Pharaonic, Greek
and Roman. In early Christianity it moved through Romanesque and gothic
cycles.
The Islamic civilization with its early, Mamlouk , Andalusian and Ottoman
periods moved towards analogy of its components and decoration with
flora and vegetation’s The Renaissance age, developed to a high one and to
Baroque and Victorian Gothic.
This ended with moving to Revolutionary construction. It prevailed in the
twentieth century in the technical industrial. Humanity suffering from
technology during the whole 20th century pushed architecture to natural
intuitive cycle./ Simplicity, minimalism, cubism, purism and economy were
realized in basic orthogonal forms.
Architectural design by intuition can approach the perception of the creator
before or after systemization.   The designer will start by systematic analysis
and move to formalization in which he adopts the technical, organic rational
or romantic approach.
