1.Structural repair works:
a thorough inspection of the building, which is com posed of wood floor
slabs resting on massive stone retaining walls, we noticed a number of
serious vertical cracks in the walls, as well as several part s of the floor slabs
that were either totally damaged or in a very bad condition and needed
urgent repair/replacement. (Pictures 1 ,2,3).
Accordingly, our structural consultant presented several solutions for the
different cases we had, so in some cases we replaced parts of the floor
slabs comp letely with steel structures, in other cases we just added steel
beams as an additional support for the old slabs. Regarding the wall cracks,
they were treared as well by clearing them thoroughly before refilling them
with grout-based mortar and applying the notches.
The corners of the building were treated with sh otcrete for extra
srengthening and t stiffners were impl emented for an extra protection against
earthquakes and landfalls, which has prepared the building for a new and
long future to come.
In addition to that, a new roof floor slab has been installed to make sure the
roof can safely host any events and activities in the future. (Pictures 4,5,6).
All main stairs have been revised and additional sup port elements have been
installed wherever it was needed. Damaged marble stairs have been
replaced by new ones of the same material and the ori ginal ones treated
with epoxy. Steel beams have b een installed underneath all service stairs as
well for extra support. (Pictures 7, 8).
All recently added elements – both external and internal – that don’t
originally belong to the building and were added over the past years, have
been removed to return the building to its old beauty All decorative
ornaments on the facades of the building have been fully and completely
restored after the production of molded pre-casted replicas of these
ornaments. (Pictures 9, 10).
