Orascom Construction Industries SAE (OCI) is a one of the largest and
leading companies of building and construction in Egypt and the world. OCI
is the most active actor listed on the Egyptian Exchange, NASDAQ Dubai
and NYSE Euronext.
In 1976, Orascom was established by Onsi   Sawiris ; a well-known
businessman, as a general contracting and trading ** company.
It was sold in 2007 to French Lafarge for a $12.81 billion deal.
Nassef   Sawiris , who is also a Board Member of Lafarge, was appointed as
OCI’s Chairman in 2009. Nassef   Sawiris is also current CEO of Orascom
OCI. About 60% of OCI capital is owned by Sawiris family; ( Onsi , Nassef
and Samih).
Orascom (OCI) operates in the field of general contracting, in addition to
manufacturing, supplying and installing building materials, tools and
equipment. OCI carries out the infrastructure works and technical and
engineering consultations of its projects. Moreover, Orascom imports the
devices, sets and equipment required for implementing its works. OCI also
aims to import, export and rent equipment.
Orascom has contributed to the most significant projects in Arab countries
and all over the world. In 2005, OCI was awarded the construction
contract for a sea water desalination plant in Algeria; Africa’s largest
desalination plant and the second largest of its kind in the world. Moreover,
OCI was awarded the contract to construct and install Egypt’s first
parabolic trough solar field in 2007
