SUBLIMITY VS BEAUTY

IN NATURE & ARCHITECTURE
Sublimity and beauty are two feelings that we enjoy by experiencing architectural icons
and natural phenomena, grand canyon, volcanoes, mountain peaks and waterfalls.
All leave a feeling of grandeur by size, height, color, structural compositions, of layers
that tell stories of growth, change, development, wear and tear, ageing and re-growth. It
is much related to time and change and natural phenomena, hurricanes, thunderstorms
and lightening.
Beauty is a permanent feeling, related to object being in whole or in parts with no
relation to time and context. Being objective a subjective is debatable however there are
some characteristics that common whoever the receiving judgment is commonly felt by
looking to a small kitten or a child kicking with hands and feet or a peacock or even the
skin of tigers.
Sublimity in biology is experienced in the Red forest in California beside a dancing
Arabian horse, in a parade.
Architecture is unique as an art that inspires sublimity. Grandeur and height of Notre
Dame, Amiens, Koln, their flying buttresses, the sound and echo of their organs Playing
or choir singing, the call for prayers in Haram mosque in Mecca minarets and rows of
worshipers going around in perfect circles on ground and on two other levels as planets
circling around the sun. In both cases such circling never stops since time immortal.
One feels pride being a part of humanity that produces Such sublime ventures: temples,
ziggurats and pyramids.
The sublimity of infinite historical monuments contrasting with their finite creators
leaving behind infinite concepts.   While God is the only infinite creator having finite
creations.
