Introduction:
Egypt is one of the largest importers of cereals in the world, as it imports 30%, and surrounding region imports 20% collectively constitutes 50% of the size of the grain trade in the world. Hence the importance of the draft global logistics center for the storage and handling of grain and cereals. The technical studies of the logistics center began in May 2014, started with the study of the implementation mechanism and the location selection. It was found that Damietta Port is the best location as there are a number of key elements in the project, the most important is the linking to the main roads.
The logistics center for the storage and handling of grain shall make Egypt internationally excellent hub for handling and storage of grain and food commodities, not only to provide the local market needs and securing strategic reserve of such goods, but also to supply the surrounding regional markets with food needs. It is a great national project not less than the Suez Canal project.
