For Studio Mango’s   founder Paul Hendrikx   winning   such an
award   with   this  luggage collection is extra special . It was   his invention of 2
years   prior   which   was   realized by Studio Mango & Princess Traveller after
a lot of teamwork and collaboration. The worldwide   patented invention is a
small   compartment   hidden in an extendable   travel trolley handle in
which   passports & tickets can   be  conveniently
stored . As an industrial designer personal   annoyances   can   be a great
inspiration for innovations.
For Paul of Studio Mango, such an
annoyance   happened   at  Shenzhen’s   airport   security check. A passenger in
the queue in front of him   was traveling with 2 small   children ; one in a pram
and carrying the other . When   reaching in her   purse   this lady
dropped   some   travel documents on the floor and was   unable to pick   them
up. Paul was able to help and picked up the documents and aided in passing
the security check. Due to that   hectic moment,
h e had   forgotten   where   his   passport   was and had to
search   through   his   luggage to find   it. Surely   there   had to be a way to
avoid   such stress during traveling.
THE SOLUTION
When   looking   around   at  other traveler’s luggage Paul got   inspired for a
possible solution. What if a small   compartment   would   be  integrated   with the
extendable   handle   just for a passport and ticket? He scribbled   his   idea on
the only   piece of paper   he  had and back in the Netherlands the ” idea -on-a-
ticket” was   presented to Princess Traveller. This fast-growing   luggage brand
distinguishes   itself   from   their   competition   through   meaningful   travel
innovations. Their team immediately   fell in love with the idea and
commissioned   its   further   development by Studio Mango.
THE DEVELOPMENT
imponam aspects ut design needed to be, clear indications for use
ergonomics , safety and not add   too   much production costs to the suitcase.
