but we are negotiating to carry out Riyadh Metro project; and the same
matter applies to Doha. In Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, most of our
projects are fuel stations. Moreover, we are carrying out projects in Jordan,
Iraq, Sudan and Lebanon. Last year, we have completed a floating concrete
project for a yachts and boats pathway in Jordan.
Q: What are the problems facing construction and building sector in Egypt?
A: Building Sector suffers many problems such as randomly-planned
building processes, and even in a district like Heliopolis we can find several
health, traffic and environmental problems due to the demolition of old
villas and building new towers instead. Additionally, there are building
material-related problems in Egypt, where the State should play a role
through codifying and controlling the markets, especially wholesalers of
rebar and cement, who are currently fixing the prices without any control
or price regulations. As for other building materials, there are two problems;
namely: the prices and need for modern technology to achieve
development. These problems can be solved not only through adopting
state-of-the-art technology in the construction of hotels and luxury housing
units, but also having new mechanisms for the markets; such as power-
saving tools and the’ use of solar energy and materials with lower effects
on the environment. Moreover, Egypt needs a free zone for building
materials, especially as about EGP1 30 billion will be pumped in the
construction sector in £015. For instance, the social housing project can be
only accomplished within five years with adopting new and developed
techniques.
