AHMED EL ZAYAT
Starting from the past to build the future, the project is based on
transforming the historic center of the city of Ismailia into an open museum
that displays the history of the Suez Canal, in order to preserve the historic
value of the city center and spread the public awareness … Preserve the
past … Represent the present … Giving Hope in the future.
The historic value of this area goes back to the concern and awareness of
Ismail pasha with the global importance of the Suez Canal and the
importance that the urban settlements on the Suez Canal sides will
represent New Egyptian facade, as he was greatly influenced by Paris, the
capital of light, he requested Ugen   Houssman to come- the urban planner of
Paris- giving him all the privileges to plan the city of Ismailia, so he divided
the city into two sections, Arabic and foreign. The Arabic section was
planned in a grid-iron network and the foreign with a radiating and grid-iron
network that include gardens and squares and they both have their own
unique buildings.
Our team studied and marked the important buildings, streets and
landmarks, finding that the study area containing the villa of Ferdinand
Delecips , his associate Fawzan   bek, Suez canal international corporation
headquarters, the old Ismailia governorate building, Ismailia museum,
Nergily , Ahmed Oraby and Sultan Hussein streets and the Ismailia canal.
The project’s idea is based on reinforcing and increasing the value of the
nodes by adding entertaining, educating, touristic, and economical activities
that brings a modern life and increases the use of these nodes. Adding
innovative technological eco-friendly interaction systems would further
increase the attractiveness of these areas.
