FOR EKLEGO DESIGN
The design inspiration was a luxurious house built around a courtyard but
we used a lot of transparent materials. Indoor and outdoor areas
overlapped visually and functionally into a volume of luminous space with
many eco-niches. We created several interiors to illustrate the range of
residential styles SODIC offered customers so they could experience the
spaces’ qualities while choosing between them. In 2008, the sales center
was nominated for the Emirates Glass Leaf Awards (UK based award) and
in 2010 the project was highly commended by the Arabian Property
Awards (in association with Bloomberg Television, UAE).
Around 2010, Cairo’s restaurant scene was booming and Eklego designed
a number of eateries, producing new concepts with clients like Aperitivo ,
Left Bank, Mince and Ted’s and translating them into the restaurant design.
We were developing an approach based on selective collaborations that
naturally included the client, drawing inspiration from their ideas, characters
and experience. Hedayat Islam worked closely with the owners of two
high-profile houses (El- Gouna House, Saqqara House, 2010) and that
relationship really brought these distinctive homes to life. (The latter was
“highly commended in the 2010 Bloomberg Arabian Property Awards.)
