IS PLAESTINIAN’S CAPITAL “ COMPETITION.
CITY REVIVING AFTER THE EVACUATION OF THE
OCCUPATION
On the 70th anniversary of the Nakba of Palestine, the Arab Architects
Association at the Arab Engineers Union from headquarter in Beirut,
announced its activity under the title “El- Quds is the Capital of Palestine”.
This is an affirmation of the Arab identity on the 70th anniversary of The
Nakba of Palestine and in response to the U.S President Donald Trump’s
decision to recognize El- Quds as the capital of Israel. The activity has two
aspects. First; is a scientific conference that treats the reality of El- Quds
city in all of historical, architectural and heritage aspects, as well as the
economic, social and cultural aspects of the living conditions and the
challenges which the Palestinian people has been facing and how they
resist in the face of occupation. The themes and organizational
mechanisms of the Conference will be announced in September 2018 and
will be held in autumn 2019.
Second; is launching an architectural, and planning ideas competition, about
the revival of El-Quds after the evacuation of the occupation in order to
create a knowledge movement around El- Quds and Palestine and to allow
engineers, architects and specialists from all over the world to learn about
the reality of the city and to raise ideas about the possibilities of its future
development after it will be back as the capital of Palestine.
The competition subscription will start on September 16th, “Sabra &
Shatila” anniversary day, and a website will be inaugurated. The handing
over of the projects on the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration in 2019.
The results will be presented at the 27th General Assembly of the UIA,
which will be held in Rio, Brazil, in July 2020.
