Origin of the curve
Miguel Chevalier creates for Samsung at IFA 2014 “Origin of the Curve”,
a unique sculpture inspired by the curved design of the new Samsungn
Curved UHD TV. It is the first time that Samsung collaborate with a digital
artist and give him a “Carte Blanche” for creating a piece of art composed
of screens.
The monumental sculpture is composed of 8 overlapping arcs. The arcs
include 26 Samsung 65″ Curved TVs which shows the virtual-reality
artwork “Origin of the Curve” that shifts and transitions in choreographic
movement to generative music provided by composer, Jacopo
Baboni Schilingi. Today 4k contents are just making their debuts but with
the real time rendering Miguel Chevalier “s « Origin of the Curve » can
synchronize 215 million of pixels combined in an infinite change of images.
“Origin of the Curve” is composed of vivid and colorful patterns that
continuously change shape and evolve. It’s a generative art. Curves multiply
in abundance, divide, and merge in sometimes slow, sometimes rapid
rhythm from one screen to another. Vivid, color-saturated spirals gradually
turn to subtle variations of different monochrome of bleue , red, green. The
patterns appear in an almost psychedelic arrangement that create
unprecedented visual experiences.
To amplify the multi-sensory and immersive experience, infrared sensors
allow visitors to interact with “Origin of the Curve” by creating distinct
visual fluctuations of intricate colored patterns.
“Origin of the Curve”, poetic and elegant art installation, is a continuation of
artists like Nam June Paik, Bill Viola or Gary Hill, video art pioneers who
have created installations and sculptures with screens. This work is at the
intersection of painting, sculpture, music and digital art.
