I BELIEVE IN HUMANIZING ARCHITECTURE MUCH MORE.
ORIGINALITY SHOULD BE CONTEMPORARY, OR ELSE IT WILL
DIE
INTERVIEWER: ALI DAGHER

Dr. Nabil Chali is a human value and architectural stature that no one can
disregard. Not only an excellent architect but also he is somehow
considered as a witness on a huge era of cultural and intellectual
transformations. Above all, he never isolated himself in an ivory tower,
however, he kept active. He did not withdraw into his shell or direct to
theorizing without entering the market and emphasizing his direction
through his distinguishing works In this issue, we honour our architects for
their efforts in the architecture field. So, we, in our first meeting with Chali,
decided to know him and his concepts about architecture, life.
We also discussed some matters with him such as how an architect could
formulate life and who an architect is according to Ghali s point of view.
The interview is rich in details as the following
First, I would like to ask you who is Ghali?
Simply, Nabil Ghali is a diligent student. He is very happy and lucky for
being a student to Hassan Fathy and Ramsis Wesa , and
Seddik Hisham Eldin . This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I never
imagine that I would work in anything rather than architecture, otherwise, I
am an architect by instinct.
with speaking about instinct, what is the difference between the amateur
and the professional in architecture?
I do not prefer the works of amateurs, as work generally means
professionalism. Even thought affection and amateurism are necessary, the
base of practicing should be professional.
Is it possible to associate the architecture profession with another
profession?
