I BELIEVE IN HUMANIZING ARCHITECTURE MUCH MORE.
Has Egypt had architectural and urban characters distinguishing it since we
are the most ancient people building on the Earth?
At the recent time, we have not. We had passed through four phases;
Pharaonic , Islamic, Mamluk , and Western «French, Italy, English*. The
Mamluk and Western phases were the best. As a result of these four
phases, we established the Khedival Cairo The only one who might think in
a different way that could have enabled us to get a distinguishing character
is « Hasan Fathy ». Accordingly, he said that there was a different type of
architecture- in Egypt- gathering the Pharaonic , Islamic and environmental

direction, and we should owe them both a deep debt of gratitude.
Do you mean that this thinking attitude could have established an
architectural school?
Yes, what we are lacking is to relate to each other and spread this thinking

happy when I achieve for someone what he/ she expresses and what
achieves comfort for him/ her. I build using stones or any other materials,
but my aim is the humans.

culture should the architect learn to be a son of the culture of the society he
is building for? And if so,
