Sites International is a multi-disciplinary firm specializing in the design of
integrated environments. The firm is located in the southwest of Cairo, a
few miles from the Giza Pyramids, and surrounded by the Western desert
and the fertile Nile valley farmland. The firm is internationally renowned
for its projects in the Middle East and is recognized as the preeminent
landscape architecture firm ‘in the Middle East .
The founders of Sites International, Dr. Maher Stino and Dr.
Laila  ElMasry-Stino , both earned their undergraduate degrees in
Architecture from Cairo University in Egypt and subsequently completed
graduate training at the University of Georgia and the University of
Michigan in the United States. Both went on to earn PhD’s ir Landscape
Architecture with an emphasis on Environmental Planning and Urban
Design from the University of Michigan.
After working with various offices in the United States and the Middle East,
Drs. Stino and ElMasry-Stino set out to establish their own firm upon
returning to Cairo in 1986. Sites International, from the onset, was thus
founded with the main focus on architecture and landscape architecture and
the harmonious integration of the built and natural environments. At the
time, landscape architecture in Egypt was considered an aesthetic pursuit
rather than a dedicated profession. In a few years the scope was expanded
to architecture, master planning, urban design, and site supervision .
The Nubian Museum in Aswan, started in 1988 and funded by the
UNESCO, was the first major undertaking. The project was awarded the
Ago Khan Award for Architecture in 2001 for landscape architecture
design .
In the 1990s, as the market for new residential compounds soared in
Egypt ,
Sites International was awarded design of Mirage City, an expansive
residential complex and golf course situated in northeast Cairo,
