Portable Fuel Container Regulation

AGENCY: Environmental Protection Agency, Air Resources Board, State of California ACTION: Rule Adoption

SUMMARY:   This  action  by  the  Air  Resources  Board  amends  existing  certification  and  test
procedures for controlling emissions from portable fuel containers (PFC), including the following
documents incorporated by reference: Certification Procedure for Portable Fuel Container Systems
(CP?501), Test Procedure for Determining Integrity of Portable Fuel Container Systems (TP?501),
and  Test  Procedure  for  Determining  Diurnal  Emissions  for  Portable  F uel  Container  Systems
(TP?502). This action also adopts recording and reporting requirements for PFC manufacturers.

applicable: The notified text establishes the maximum permissible limits for emissions of

ammonia (NH3), hydrocarbons (HC), non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC), non-methane

hydrocarbons plus nitrogen oxides (NMHC+NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides

(NOx) and particles (Part) from the exhaust pipes of new diesel engines to be used for the

propulsion of motor vehicles of a gross vehicle weight exceeding 3,857 kg and from the

exhaust  pipes  of  new  motor  vehicles  of  a  gross  vehicle  weight  exceeding 3,857  kg

equipped with this type of engine.

the existence of the infrastructure required for its implementation.

6.            Description of content: This Mexican Official Standard is binding upon the manufacturers

and importers of new diesel engines to be used for the propulsion of motor vehicles of a

gross vehicle weight exceeding 3,857 kg and for motor vehicles of a gross vehicle weight

exceeding 3,857 kg equipped with this type of engine. This Mexican Official Standard does

not cover remanufactured engines.
