REVIVING SCREENSHOTS OF THE PAST….
U-BISTRO, ZAMALEK, CAIRO
Reviving old spaces with their original soul, character and respect to their
function lies at the heart of Karim M. Century old buildings, shops and
clubs should not be stripped of their beauty and personality but rather
sensibly reworked with silk gloves. The reintegration of such projects is like
sowing together the colorful fabric of Egyptian society codes and lifestyle
U-Bistro is an example of this design approach where modernity and
comfort are brought to a historical space located in Zamalek’s Baehler
building on 26. July street.
Linking the past and present together in the interior vocabulary allows the
guest to experience a historical moment today. The experience exceeds
food and drink and takes the guests to a third dimension…. a screen shot of
the past.
Hospitality projects such as U-Bistro in Zamalek show a great example of
sensible design that supports the fluid function and beauty in its ultimate
form. The interior language of open spaces flows into the horizon guarding
the design objective of bringing luxury to a sophisticated eatery in the heart
of Cairo. The branding concept and logo, which is a vital part of the
interior, was developed by Karim M.
Being deeply rooted in the history of Egypt, he uses and reinterprets
cultural codes and revives traditional manufacturing methods with local
materials. With great sensibility and his own design philosophy as a base, he
treats design as a coherent single entity by which he manages to capture the
fragile moment of designing.
