THE CELL

The primitive form of life is the cell. Every single organism in this world is constituted
from a minimum living autonomous particle: the cell.
Fauna and flora, human beings are evolved as aggregations of cells. Cells aggregate to
clusters of cells, clusters differentiate and create organs and organs consist organisms.
Cities con also be seen as organisms, olive and functional, constantly evolving and
dynamic created by cells. In this point of view cities con be understood as extensions of
the residents closely related to human scale. City cells interact with each other, bond
and structure complexities. The new Science City apprehends these principles as the
basic concept of the development of the project.
SCIENCE CITY CELL
Based on a typical city cell – the building mass and the void – a new kind of an evolved
city cell is proposed: The Science City cell is transformed to adjust to the local climate
conditions and the programme needs. A taper transformation is applied to maximize the
public and the exhibition spaces on the floor plan and create a continuous field of
interaction, while research space is also expanded to shade the space below. The
intermediate floor houses administration uses and services between the two major
entities of the building.
CELL BONDS
Cells act as the minimum functional part of science city and structure the complexity
of the whole space. Every cell is supported by the adjacent into a system of
triangulation, conforming a unified void in the floor plan and bonding research cells
into clusters.
