Sulfonamides are the oldest and the most widely used antibacterial agents in veterinary medicine, chiefly because of low cost and their relative efficacy in some common bacterial diseases. The synergistic action of sulfonamides with specific diaminopyrimidines renders these drugs much more effective compafed to sulfonamides alone.
