غضبت الليدي كاثرين أشد الغضب لزواج ابن أختها، وعبرت عن مشاعرها هذه في خطاب حمل الكثير من الإهانات لإليزابيث، وعلى أثره انقطعت كل أواصر الود بينهم لفترة. وانتقل آل كولينز إلى منزل لوكاس حتى تنتهي العاصفة، وهو ما حدث بالفعل حين أقنعت إليزابيث دارسي بأن يبادر بالسلام وينهي الخلاف.
أما آل جاردنر، فقد كانوا ينعمون دائمًا بأقوى العلاقات مع من حولهم. فقد كان دارسي وإليزابيث يحبانهم إلى حد بعيد، وكان كلاهما يشعر بامتنان بالغ للشخصين اللذين أحضراها إلى ديربى شاير وتسببا بذلك في إحداث الوفاق بينهما.
