UAE JOURNALISM ((PRESS)) MUSEUM
Architect: Hany Maher Ibrahim Location: dubai, UAE
“he journalists’ association in the United Arab Emirates decided to make a museum to
document the birth and beginning of journalism in the different emirates of the country.
They were offered a building from the arts and culture association in Dubai. This
building is one of the heritage buildings in the “Bistekia” Area.
This area or neighborhood goes back to the year 1890 and is considered one of the
oldest in old Dubai. It is characterized by its unique urban heritage in the form of
separate each other and very narrow streets (alleys) that separate them (which
are called SAKIK) with very few openings on these alleys.
These buildings that are one or two stories, were once houses and homes for rich
families that came to this area from a place called (BISTEK) in the Governorate of
(HERMEZ KAN) south of Iran. These families were able to maintain the buildings and
keep them in their beautiful state due to their wealth. This section of the city is known
now by the name of (EL FAHIDY HISTORICAL NEIGHBORHOOD) which is in the east
side of Dubai and is considered one of its most important heritage sites in Dubai. It
lies by the creek, for 300m in length and 200m in depth towards the south with an area
of 38,000 m2.
The Journalists Association asked architect Hany Maher Ibrahim to design this project
to transfer this historical building to the museum they desire taking in consideration all
the needed facilities to have the state of the art musicology.
