SITES INTERNATIONAL
is a multi-disciplinary firm specializing in the design of integrated
environments. The founders of Sites International, Dr. Maher Stino and Dr.
Laila ElMasry-Stino , both earned their undergraduate degrees in
Architecture from Cairo University in Egypt and subsequently completed
graduate training at the University of Georgia and the University of
Michigan in the United States. Both went on to earn PhD’s in Landscape
Architecture with an emphasis on Environmental Planning and Urban
Design from the University of Michigan. Dr. Stino and Dr. ElMasry-Stino
went on to hold faculty appointments at such institutions as the University
of Michigan, Riyadh University (now King Saud University), the American
University of Dubai, and Cairo University, where they continue to hold
appointments. Over the last 30 years, Drs. Stino and ElMasry-Stino have
led a growing team of architects, landscape architects, planners, and
engineers with the vision of putting time-honored design principles into
practice and thus creating fully integrated environments where architecture,
landscape architecture, and engineering blend seamlessly to create
meaning and beauty in local environments. Sites International has
spearheaded such projects as Mirage City, the JW Marriott, and the
American University in Cairo, New Campus. The Nubian Museum in
Aswan, one of its earliest projects, was awarded the prestigious Aga Khan
Award in 2001 for Landscape Architecture. The Azhar Park, which opened
to the public in 2004, changed the landscape of Old Cairo, and helped
revitalize the nearby Darb al Ahmar district. The Park was the cover story
for the American Society of Landscape Architecture’s publication magazine
and featured in a dedicated documentary that aired nationally in the United
States. Sites International is currently the largest consultancy firm
specialized in landscape architecture in North Africa and the Middle East.
