CAS BEE has been designed to enhance both the quality of people’s lives
and to reduce the life-cycle resource use and environmental loads
associated with the built environment, from a single home to a whole city.
CAS BEE major categories of criteria are: quality of service, indoor
environmental quality, outdoor environment on site, energy, resources and
materials and off-site environment. To rate projects, CASBEE uses a scale
of excellent, very good, good, fairy poor and poor. Sustainability now is a
top priority in countries like Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, … etc.
and they have also come up with their own green building rating system.
So, there are other sustainability rating systems which are used in the
Middle East.
PRS – Pearl Rating System
The Pearl Rating System is the green building rating system for the Emirate
of Abu Dhabi designed to support sustainable development from design to
construction to operational accountability of communities, buildings and
villas. It is specifically tailored to the hot and arid ,limited of Abu Dhabi
which is characterized by high energy requirements for air-conditioning,
high evaporation rates, infrequent rainfall and water scarcity. The Pearl
Rating System has various levels of certification, ranging from one to five
pearls. The Pearl Rating System is organized into seven categories: water,
energy and waste minimization, local materials, … etc. where there are both
mandatory and optional credits. To achieve 1 Pearl Rating, all the
mandatory credit requirements must be met.
GPRS – Green Pyramid Rating System It is a national environmental rating
system for buildings, produced by the Housing and Building Research
Establishment (HBRE) in 2009. It is designed for use in new building
works and to assess individual new buildings at either or both the design
stage”
