REVIVAL OF THE HERITAGE BUILDINGS
It is worth mentioning that the cultural work «Archaeological and Heritages
is the only way to achieve what we seek from the cultural advancement of
our work or to achieve outstanding Arab contribution in the time of
regionalism in which we live.
Architect Hani Maher had numerous experiments in dealing with
archaeological and heritage buildings and Eng. Hamdi Al- Stouhi cooperate
with him in many of these experiments. He was asked at his early work
beginning to develop and renew cinema Rivoli in downtown and turn it into
cinema and theater which was inaugurated in 1992. Then his experiments
began to turn around renewal, developing and promoting a set of heritage
and archaeological buildings. His projects included renewal and developing
of interfaces of Rod Al- Farag Hospital in 1999, Abdul Wahab Museum at
the Arab Music Institute in 1999, Musical Instruments Museum at the Arab
Music Institute in 2001, Museum of the Opera House in 2001 and the
Citadel Museum at the Citadel in 2003.
Dealing with archaeological and historical buildings of heritage value should
exceed the documentation, registration and restoration mission to highlight
those buildings as valuable cultural heritage through developing and
reconcile their use, and also through reviving and supporting urban areas
that directly surrounding those buildings which affecting it and affected by
it. This should be done with a focus on the importance of the local
community and the human factor affecting them through reuse and revival
projects, as in the project of «Pompey’s Pillar» in Alexandria.
Dealing with a distinct heritage combines the historical importance, value of
heritage, growing stander and being a part of the urban fabric of the areas
of cultural value.
