Criticism of the concept of Smart Cities:
After more than a decade has been past on the appearing of the concept of
smart cities, we note the limited of this concept on the main points related to the
interaction of residents and visitors of the city with digital communication
techniques, movement and coordination of financial transactions.
This narrow understanding reduces the value of intelligence in its sense of
broader and complex.
Also, reducing the description of intelligence city in knowing the use of mobile
phones to find the nearest restaurant, gas station or bank branch is unfair
because it does not provide evidence on the quality of human life in these cities.
The Smart City in the previous proposal makes communication and interaction
human is not required, but may be counter to describe the city of intelligence.
This is the real crisis that made some analysts, writers and specialists tend to
narrow the concept of smart cities to use it in describing a place greatly
benefited from the use of information technology and smart phones or smart
cards, communication or smart homes or any “thing” intelligent.
There is no doubt that any electronic means could contribute in the improvement
of urban life and in the establishment of a city is a smart. Hence it is true that the
modem means of communication and information technology that contributed
in improving the performance of cities, but does it actually lead to make the city
more intelligent and does it make human life better?
