صاحت: “هذا مثير! سوف تتزوج وهي في عمر السادسة عشرة! كم أتمنى رؤيتها هي وعزيزي ويكهام أيضًا! ولكن الملابس، ملابس الزفاف! سوف أكتب إلى أختي زوجة جاردنر على الفور بخصوص هذا الشأن. وسوف أتوجه إلى ميريتون بمجرد أن أنتهي من ارتداء ملابسي. اقرعي الجرس يا كيتي واستدعى الخادم. وسوف أستعد في دقيقة واحدة، وبمجرد أن أنتهي من ارتداء ملابسي، سأتوجه إلى ميريتون لأبلغ أختي فيليبس بالأخبار السعيدة، وأثناء عودتي سأخبر السيدة لوكاس والسيدة لونج”.

وبعد ذلك بدأت تنقل الخبر للخدم الذين عبروا عن فرحتهم، وتلقت إليزابيث التهاني مع الآخرين، وبعد أن أعياها هذا الحمق، توجهت إلى غرفتها لكي تفكر في هدوء.
Mrs Bennet. Their mother could hardly control herself. Her joy burst out after the first few sentences. She had no fears for her daughter’s happiness, nor shame from any memory of her misbehaviour.
“This is so exciting!” she cried. “She will be married at sixteen! How I wish to see her and dear Wickham too! But the clothes, the wedding clothes! I will write to my sister Gardiner about them directly. Ring the bell, Kitty, for the servant. I will dress in a moment. I will go to Meryton as soon as I am dressed, and tell the good, good news to my sister Philips. And as I am coming back, I can call on Lady Lucas and Mrs Long.”
She then began to tell the news to the servant, who expressed her joy. Elizabeth received her congratulations with the rest, and then, sick of this foolishness, went to her own room so that she could think in peace.
